What is In Corrective Exercise

Corrective Exercise is used to assist clients who have dysfunction due to previous injury, current pain, or deficiency, and as a method of injury prevention. Is an old injury limiting your fitness goals? Has rehab been completed, but you're not back to your previous fitness level? Do you want to prevent injury or avoid surgery? Looking to optimize your speed or strengthen individual muscle groups?

Quite often, dysfunction from one area of the body can refer pain to another location. Oftentimes, poor form – or poor posture from prolonged sitting, overuse, and repetitive motions sets up compensations that lead to dysfunction of the kinetic chain, which eventually always leads to injury or pain.

An CES will use movement screens and assessments to identify weak or under-activated muscles and strong or over-dominant muscles, developing a personalized program aimed at correcting these compensations to help restore appropriate muscle function and range of motion within joints.

Why is Corrective Exercise important?

Everyone’s body has its own particular set of issues. The human body is so efficient it will purposely recruit the stronger muscles to create motion. Repetitive movements in daily life could lead to overuse of specific muscles associated with those movements, which induces dysfunction when those muscles become the primary recruits for movements. Because muscles attach to tendons and ligaments, which move your joints, correcting inefficiencies in the musculature can lead to decreased joint pain.

Through the work of a Corrective Exercise Specialist we are able to avoid these compensations before they build into further pain and dysfunction. The results of this often include decreased pain, lowered injury risk, and many times an accelerated achievement of fitness goals.

Am I a Candidate for Corrective Exercise?

Have you ever been hurt? Do you have any joint pain? The best candidates for Corrective Exercise are anyone who has had an injury, surgery, or other chronic pain in the joints.
